Best Battlefield 1 deals
The standard price for Battlefield 1 is £44 on PC and £49 on Xbox One and PS4. There’s also a collector’s edition available for console players which includes a 14in collector’s edition statue, exclusive SteelBook, exclusive cloth propaganda poster, deck of playing cards, messenger pigeon tub with exclusive DLC content, exclusive patch and premium packaging. It costs a whopping £179. Remember that EA Access members receive a 10 percent discount when buying the digital version on Xbox Live, and Origin Access members get the same offer through Origin.
When is new Battlefield 1 DLC coming out?
As is standard in the Battlefield series, there is set to be a series of four expansion packs for Battlefield 1 released within a year of the game’s initial release. EA claims that the four pieces of DLC will add a total of 16 multiplayer maps, new Operations and game modes, new Elite classes, 20 new weapons and more to the existing game. Below, we outline each of the four expansions and bring you everything we know so far. We also share the news that Battlefield is getting a new competitive side called Incursions, which was unveiled at Gamescom at the end of August.
Giant’s Shadow DLC
Before the arrival of the paid DLC, all Battlefield 1 players were treated to free DLC in the form of Giant’s Shadow. Giant’s Shadow was released in December 2016, and features a new multiplayer map based on the Battle of the Selle in autumn 1918.
They Shall Not Pass Battlefield 1 DLC
The first paid DLC, dubbed They Shall Not Pass, focuses on France and features four new maps based on the Battle of Verdun and the Battle of Soissons. “Around 1 million shells were fired in the opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun,” the developers wrote in a blog post. “This created massive forest fires around the fortified city and the battlefields surrounding it. Soldiers tell stories of being able to see these fires from far away. We really wanted to capture this initial fighting in a battle that came to be known as the Devil’s Anvil.” Along with the new maps, the update also features new weapons, game modes, elite classes, tanks and for the first time, introduce the French Army as a playable faction – fitting given the major role they played in the war. They Shall Not Pass was released on 28 March 2017, although owners of the £39.99 season pass got access two weeks earlier.
In the Name of the Tsar DLC
The next update for Battlefield 1 was called In the Name of the Tsar and included a female soldier. The main focus of the DLC was on the Russian Army, and brought a new class into the multiplayer shooter: Hussar. The DLC also includes a whopping six new maps, along with new vehicles, 11 new weapons and even a new game mode called Supply Drop, in which teams compete to recover airdrops that are filled with weaponry.
In the Name of the Tsar was released on 15 September 2017.
Turning Tides DLC
As the name suggests, Turning Tides will focus on water-based warfare during World War 1. The DLC will bring with it a myriad of new ships available to battle at sea, along with new planes to help gain the edge. While not much else is known, EA says it’ll be based on the the first days of the Gallipoli offensive in the 1915 Ottoman empire and offers four new maps, six new weapons, an Infiltrator Elite Class, L-Class Destroyer, C-Class Airship, a new Operation mission and more. There’s also a new game mode dubbed Conquest Assault, which EA claims is “a twist on the signature conquest mode” with attackers and defenders fighting over key areas exclusively controlled by the defending team at the beginning of the match. It should provide more of a challenge than standard Conquest matches that see each team in control of an even number of areas bar one, which is (almost) always contested. There’s no word on a release date just yet, but we imagine that Turning Tides will drop before Christmas 2017, so there’s not that long to wait.
Apocalypse DLC
Apocalypse seems to be the most peculiar piece of paid DLC for Battlefield 1, as the name seems to suggest some kind of zombie tie-in (especially with recent zombie-like sounds found within one of the They Shall Not Pass maps) but this is yet to be confirmed by EA. We’re not so sure either, as it wouldn’t fit with the serious, sobering tone of the game. What the company does say is that it’ll feature the most infamous battles of WW1, conquering bitterly contested ground with unique tools and weapons “born out of desperation and deadlock“. It should be brutal, with EA promising “Never before have the nightmarish horrors of the Great War been closer as you descend into hell“.
Battlefield 1 Incursions news
Unveiled at Gamescom 2017 on 21 August, Battlefield 1 is getting a new Incursions feature which will begin as a closed Alpha. “Incursions is the beginning of a new, competitive side of Battlefield,” says the game’s official website. “It’s got intense tactical matches that reward skill, strategy and teamwork. And at it’s heart, it’s got everything that makes Battlefield special.” There will be new, small-scale 5 vs 5 battles with a scoring system that rewards close teamwork. You’ll be able to take advantage of vehicles, and will need to thingk strategically about how you play. To find out more, follow the official subreddit here.
