The same website suggests Windows 7’s accounts for around 18% of that figure, while NetMarketShare figures from November 2020 puts it at over 21%. Microsoft’s 2018 figure of 1.5 billion Windows devices may have fallen significantly, and lots of Windows 7 machines are unlikely to be used day-to-day, but it’s safe to assume that plenty of people still rely on the outdated OS. ZDNet suggests this in excess of 100 million....

For the uninitiated, a gimbal smooths out the shakes and movement you get when walking around while recording video. Some phones already provide excellent stabilisation so don’t really need a gimbal, but others – such as the Huawei P20 Pro – only offer it at 1080p. Many phones provide worse stabilisation in 4K because they can’t crop the footage as they can at lower resolutions....
In a new partnership, announced on 7 May, Tile and Intel are teaming up to allow OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), such as Asus, HP and Lenovo, to integrate the location company’s tracking services into their Intel-powered machines. It’s unclear which manufacturers are set to implement Tile integration within upcoming laptops but so long as they’re powered by select Intel chips, there’s the possibility that Tile support may feature. With regards to the Elite Dragonfly, Tile integration was an optional extra, so its presence on new Intel-based laptops will also likely be at the customer’s discretion....

There’s been a lot of talk but 5G is finally real with Qualcomm managing the first successful trial of a 5G connection. The firm has delivered higher than gigabit speeds using the X50 modem, announced last year, over a 28Ghz mmWave frequency. The test peaked at 1.24Gbps and the modem can support up to 5Gbps. The firm expects devices with the Snapdragon X50 modem to be available in the first half of 2019....

Maybe the courts won’t actually split Microsoft into two large chunks (Windows and applications) – sometimes referred to as Baby Bills. If the breakup does happen, the process will be long, painful, and wrought with confusion and surprises. But it also could be good for customers, particularly on the applications end.
